Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off the new Bengaluru–Mumbai Express train on Sunday, May 17, 2026, marking a major boost to rail connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra. The new service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mumbai, two of India’s busiest urban and business hubs. According to officials, the train strengthens direct connectivity and addresses a long-pending demand from passengers in both South and North Karnataka.
The Bengaluru to Mumbai new train is expected to help regular passengers, students, workers and business travellers who frequently move between the two cities. The launch is also being seen as part of Indian Railways’ larger plan to strengthen long-distance rail services from Karnataka.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Service Expected Soon
Along with the new express train from Bengaluru to Mumbai, the Railway Minister also said that the Vande Bharat sleeper Bengaluru–Mumbai service is expected to be introduced soon. The upcoming Vande Bharat sleeper service is likely to offer a faster and more comfortable overnight journey for passengers travelling on this busy route. This announcement has created strong interest among train users, as Bengaluru–Mumbai rail connectivity continues to remain an important travel requirement. Once launched, the Vande Bharat sleeper may become a premium option for passengers looking for better speed, comfort and convenience.
Karnataka Railway Network Gets Major Boost
Ashwini Vaishnaw also highlighted Karnataka’s railway development and said around 1,750 km of new railway lines have been constructed in the state since 2014. He noted that several projects, including electrification, suburban rail development, station upgrades and new route improvements, are being taken up to strengthen the railway network. The Bengaluru–Mumbai Express train 2026 launch adds to this growing focus on Karnataka railway updates. With the new express train and the proposed Vande Bharat sleeper service, passengers can expect improved travel choices between Bengaluru and Mumbai in the coming months.
