PM Modi Arrives In Rome For Final Leg Of Tour

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome on May 19 to conclude his five-nation tour. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed him on X with a photo captioned, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” As part of the ceremonial welcome, PM Modi was presented with a painting depicting the ghats of Varanasi. Traditional musical performances accompanied the greeting, highlighting India’s cultural heritage in Italy.

Diplomatic Engagements And Bilateral Talks

During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and hold discussions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The talks will focus on enhancing India-Italy cooperation, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The Prime Minister will also review the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 and visit the Headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to emphasize India’s commitment to multilateralism and global food security.

India-Nordic Partnership And Tour Highlights

Prior to arriving in Italy, PM Modi visited Oslo for the 3rd India-Nordic Summit, engaging with leaders from Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden. The discussions covered green technology, climate action, trade, innovation, artificial intelligence, Arctic research, and defense collaboration. India and the Nordic countries strengthened their ties under a “Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership,” reaffirming commitments to sustainable development and shared democratic values.

Cultural Diplomacy And Indian Arts

The visit also highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage. A traditional musical performance based on Raga Hamsadhwani was presented for the Prime Minister, reflecting India’s vibrant arts. The artist involved noted that the performance aimed to promote Indian values and culture across Italy and Europe, underlining the soft power dimension of India’s international diplomacy.
