Saudi Arabia Dammam Airport Attack Kills 1, Injures 8

An attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, killed one person and injured eight others on Wednesday evening, October 21, 2026. Saudi aviation officials confirmed that the incident also damaged airport infrastructure, prompting flight diversions and raising fresh concerns about the safety of civilian aviation in the region.

King Fahd International Airport attack

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the casualties early Thursday, October 22. According to its statement, the person killed was a resident of Saudi Arabia, while the eight injured people suffered wounds ranging from minor to serious.

Emergency responders transferred the injured to hospitals for treatment. Officials said teams were assessing the damage to airport facilities and would release further information as it became available. The authority did not immediately identify the weapon used or those responsible for the attack.

Saudi airport attack casualties

The latest incident adds to mounting security concerns across Saudi Arabia, where airports and other important infrastructure have faced repeated attacks in recent weeks.

King Fahd International Airport serves Dammam and surrounding areas in the kingdom's Eastern Province. Its location near Bahrain and Qatar makes it an important gateway for regional and international travelers.

Dammam airport flight diversions

Global flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported on X that aircraft were diverted away from Dammam following the attack.

The disruption affected air traffic at a major Saudi transport hub. However, officials had not established a complete timetable for restoring normal operations in the initial reports.

Passengers traveling through Dammam were advised to check directly with their airlines for updated flight information.

Houthi attacks on Saudi airports

The attack occurred amid heightened tensions involving Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement, which has previously targeted Saudi airports and infrastructure.

Earlier attacks also affected King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, resulting in casualties and disruptions.

However, the Houthis had not claimed responsibility for the Dammam incident, and Saudi officials had not publicly identified its perpetrators. The Saudi-led coalition separately reported intercepting four drones in the kingdom's Eastern Province.

Saudi aviation authority investigation

Saudi authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The incident highlights growing concerns about civilian safety and aviation security as regional hostilities intensify. Further official findings will be important in establishing how the airport was targeted, who carried out the attack and when normal flight operations can fully resume.
