Netanyahu's Election Fraud Claims Spark Political Row in Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces growing political controversy after his Likud party alleged that Arab-led parties used foreign support to influence the October 27 parliamentary election. The allegations emerged after Netanyahu's coalition lost its majority in the 120-member Knesset, leaving the country facing difficult negotiations over its next government.

Netanyahu Alleges Election Fraud

Netanyahu and his political allies have accused Arab-led parties of benefiting from alleged vote-buying and foreign financial assistance.

Likud claimed that the election had been stolen and called for an investigation into suspected irregularities.

The party also warned against allowing Arab-led factions to influence the next government. However, authorities have not established that widespread fraud altered the election outcome.

The allegations have increased tensions between Netanyahu's supporters and opposition parties.

Israel Election Results 2026

Israel's Central Elections Committee reported that Netanyahu's bloc secured 53 seats, while the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot won 48.

The Arab-led Joint List and Ra'am parties secured a combined 19 seats, their strongest parliamentary representation to date.

A governing majority requires at least 61 seats. Neither Netanyahu nor Eisenkot currently commands enough support to form a government independently.

The completed count remains subject to routine verification before formal certification.

Gadi Eisenkot Criticises Likud Allegations

Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot accused Netanyahu and Likud of attempting to undermine public confidence in the election results.

He called for a thorough investigation into any credible allegations of foreign involvement but warned against using an unfinished inquiry to challenge the outcome.

Eisenkot also urged officials to ensure that the newly elected Knesset begins its work on schedule.

His statements reflect growing disagreement over how the allegations should be handled during coalition negotiations.

Shin Bet Investigates Foreign Interference Claims

Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet, is examining information concerning possible foreign involvement in election-related activities.

The Central Elections Committee's chairman requested an investigation into suspicions of improper funding.

However, election officials rejected broader allegations that the voting process had been systematically compromised.

Police also reported no evidence supporting claims that the election had been stolen.

The investigation remains limited, and no confirmed finding has established that foreign interference changed the results.

Arab Parties Influence Israeli Coalition Talks

The strong performance of the Joint List and Ra'am has increased the political importance of Arab-led parties.

Their combined 19 seats could become decisive if opposition parties seek support outside their traditional alliances.

However, several Jewish-led parties remain reluctant to form a government dependent on Arab-party backing.

President Isaac Herzog is expected to consult political parties after certification and select a candidate to attempt forming a government.

For now, Netanyahu remains in office while Israel awaits the outcome of coalition negotiations and the continuing investigation.
