The decision was taken after a sharp rise in travel demand on southern routes connecting major cities and tourist destinations. The additional services are expected to provide relief to passengers struggling to get confirmed tickets during the busy vacation period. Thousands of travelers including families, students, tourists, and migrant workers are expected to benefit from the newly announced services. According to railway authorities, the Chennai Egmore–Kanyakumari Summer Special Superfast Express will depart from Chennai Egmore at 5.20 PM and reach Kanyakumari at 6.50 AM the next day. In the return direction, the Kanyakumari–Chennai Egmore Summer Special Superfast Express will leave Kanyakumari at 3.15 PM and arrive in Chennai Egmore at 4.55 AM the following morning. The trains will halt at several major stations across Tamil Nadu and Kerala to improve connectivity for passengers traveling to important destinations in the southern region. Railway officials stated that the special trains will operate on selected summer dates and will include sleeper class, AC coaches, and general compartments to accommodate different categories of passengers. Authorities have advised travelers to book tickets early through official Indian Railways reservation portals and authorized booking counters as heavy demand is expected. Southern Railway also mentioned that additional staff and onboard support teams may be deployed to ensure smooth train operations and passenger convenience during the peak holiday travel season. The announcement has been welcomed by regular commuters and tourists planning visits to popular destinations such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Madurai, and nearby regions. However, officers later discovered more than $44,000 concealed inside separate envelopes in the passenger’s carry-on bag after Nitro alerted authorities during an outbound enforcement inspection. Why Was the Cash Seized? Federal law does not limit how much cash travelers can carry into or out of the United States. However, travelers must report amounts exceeding $10,000 to the U.S. Treasury. CBP officials said the passenger failed to properly declare the money and attempted to conceal the currency to evade federal reporting laws. Authorities seized the cash and later returned $240 before releasing the traveler. “This traveler concealed currency in multiple locations for the purpose of evading federal currency reporting laws,” Acting Area Port Director Elliott Ortiz said in a statement.
