Big Rail Boost: Bengaluru to Get Vande Bharat to Mangaluru, 2 New Mumbai Trains Soon

In a major step to strengthen railway connectivity across Karnataka and neighbouring states, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the launch of three new train services from Bengaluru.According to an official update, a semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express connecting Bengaluru with Mangaluru is in the final stages of planning. The service is expected to be extended further to Madgaon, significantly improving connectivity across coastal Karnataka and linking it seamlessly with Goa.

The minister confirmed that the Hassan–Mangaluru railway line has been fully electrified, with testing and trial runs currently underway. The Vande Bharat service is likely to become operational within the next few months, offering faster and more efficient travel along the coastal route.

In addition, Indian Railways will introduce two new train services between Bengaluru and Mumbai. These include:

  • A superfast Mail/Express train via Hubballi–Dharwad, equipped with modern LHB coaches
  • A Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, aimed at providing faster and more comfortable overnight travel

Both services are expected to begin operations within the coming months.

The expansion is part of a broader effort to enhance connectivity to key coastal destinations along the Konkan belt. Officials also highlighted the deployment of advanced safety features such as Automated Emergency Braking (AEB), which is crucial for handling the steep gradients on the coastal railway routes.Once operational, these new train services are expected to reduce travel time, improve passenger comfort, and boost economic and tourism links between Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.
