A 34-year-old woman from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar who had travelled to the UK for an MBA was found dead in a rented apartment in Pune. Her family, unable to reach her, grew concerned after discovering food delivery transactions in her bank statements that appeared to place her in India.
Family Loses Contact With Mugdha Deshmukh
Mugdha Deshmukh moved to the UK in July 2025 to pursue an MBA. She lived alone and took up part-time jobs. Her family stayed in touch with her through phone calls and messages.
On October 24, 2026, Mugdha stopped responding to her family, and her phone was later switched off. Her parents contacted a friend in London, who said she had last communicated with Mugdha by message on October 22. The friend reported her missing to London police and was told that Mugdha had left the UK around the end of August.
Bank Transactions Point Family to India
Mugdha’s family sought help from Indian authorities and the Indian High Commission to locate her. Her father then checked her bank statements and found several food delivery transactions dated between October 8 and 25. Some transactions were linked to the Osamanpura area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, leading the family to believe she had returned to India.
Police investigated the transaction details and traced Mugdha to the Lodha Belmondo complex in Gahunje, near Pune. She had rented the apartment in April and reportedly began living there in August.
Police Find Her Inside Rented Apartment
Police went to the apartment and, with the help of a keymaker, entered the flat. They found Mugdha dead inside. Senior Inspector Devendra Chavan of Shirgaon Police said the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar police had traced her location to the complex before local officers reached the residence.
Police said there were no visible injury marks on her body. Authorities have not announced a cause of death, and further investigation is underway.
