1 Dead, 3 Injured in Fiery I-45 Crash Near Conroe

A tragic accident on I-45 North near the San Jacinto River in Conroe, Texas, claimed the life of a child and left three others injured late Sunday evening. The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m., involved a head-on collision that escalated into a fiery crash, according to officials from the Woodlands Fire Department and Conroe emergency responders.

The Conroe Fire Department received emergency calls reporting a serious accident just north of Highway 1488. Authorities confirmed that a vehicle had broken down and was stationary on the shoulder when a blue Toyota Camry collided with it. The impact caused both vehicles to ignite, triggering an immediate response from fire and rescue units. Firefighters from Rescue 101 of The Woodlands Fire Department were among the first to arrive and quickly managed to put out the blaze before it could spread further.

Tragically, a child inside the stationary vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A mother and a second child, also in the same car, suffered severe third-degree burns and were rushed to a local hospital. Their current medical condition remains undisclosed, but both are reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota Camry, who was traveling alone, was also hospitalized. He is currently in stable condition, authorities confirmed.

The Conroe Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are leading a joint investigation into the incident. Preliminary reports indicate the initial vehicle may have broken down prior to the collision, but further analysis is underway to determine the sequence of events and whether any external factors such as speeding, distracted driving, or vehicle malfunction played a role.

Traffic on I-45 North was significantly delayed for several hours as law enforcement cordoned off the area to conduct their investigation and clear the scene. This latest accident adds to a growing number of serious vehicle incidents along Texas highways in recent months, raising ongoing concerns about highway safety and driver awareness during night travel.

Authorities are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution when encountering stopped vehicles on high-speed roads, especially after dark. Emergency responders emphasized the importance of pulling completely off the roadway when facing vehicle trouble and using hazard lights or roadside flares to improve visibility. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life and hopes for the recovery of those injured in this heartbreaking incident.
