In a forward-thinking move, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has entered into a strategic partnership with ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), Sriharikota, to use space technology for real-time, citizen-focused governance. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on June 2 between the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) and SHAR, marking a significant step towards integrating advanced satellite data into state governance.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu called the MoU a "landmark step" in leveraging cutting-edge space technologies for public service delivery. The agreement is designed to enhance the existing AWARE platform (AP Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Research Centre) with satellite imagery, remote sensing, and scientific inputs.
The AWARE system currently integrates data from multiple sources including satellites, drones, sensors, mobile feeds, and CCTV networks to deliver real-time alerts and advisories to both citizens and government agencies. These alerts are transmitted via SMS, WhatsApp, and media platforms, aiding sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, weather forecasting, and urban planning.
This development builds on Andhra’s previous initiatives like "Mana Mitra", the state’s WhatsApp-based governance service launched earlier this year. Originally providing 161 services, Mana Mitra has since expanded to offer over 200 citizen services through an AI-powered chat interface.
In another forward-looking move, Chief Minister Naidu also held discussions with a delegation from NASSCOM to position Andhra Pradesh as a global tech innovation hub. Key proposals include establishing AI and Quantum Sandboxes for pilot projects, launching a 100K Tech Apprentice Programme to close the skill gap, and building a Coastal Cloud & Cyber Corridor for green data centers. These initiatives reflect Andhra’s ambition to emerge as a smart governance model by integrating emerging technologies across governance, infrastructure, and citizen services.
