NDA Likely to Announce Vice Presidential Candidate on August 12, PM Modi and JP Nadda to Decide Nominee

In a significant development ahead of the Vice Presidential election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda are expected to finalize the NDA's nominee by August 12, 2025. This comes after the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar due to health reasons, which has left the position vacant on the very first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

A crucial meeting of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) floor leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and others, was held in Parliament to discuss the final selection of the Vice Presidential candidate. The meeting also focused on election coordination and ensuring that the voting process remains smooth, particularly given the secret ballot system in play. Party whips cannot be issued, so there will be extensive training to avoid invalid votes and ensure the NDA’s unity during the election.

The NDA's approach to this election is more cautious than ever, following recent setbacks in the House during other votes. The alliance's leadership is determined to streamline voting procedures and avoid mistakes, guaranteeing a disciplined approach ahead of the election.

The resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who had chaired the first day of the Monsoon Session, took many by surprise. In his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar cited health reasons and medical advice for his decision. This sudden resignation has raised suspicions in the opposition, particularly from Congress, which questioned the true reasons behind his exit. Congress veteran Jairam Ramesh mentioned speaking with Dhankhar just two hours before the resignation news broke, during which he found no immediate concerns.

The resignation and the upcoming election are pivotal in Indian politics, with the NDA working to solidify its position before the voting takes place. With strong support from leaders like Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, who pledged unconditional backing, the NDA’s numbers continue to grow, adding to the intrigue surrounding the selection process.
