Jagan Mohan Reddy Booked in Fatal Andhra Road Accident

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been officially named an accused in a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a man in Guntur district. The incident occurred on June 18, 2025, while Reddy was returning from a condolence visit to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district. The vehicle in question, part of the ex-CM’s convoy, reportedly ran over an elderly man named Singaiah on the Etukuru bypass.

Guntur district Superintendent of Police, S Satish Kumar, addressed the media on June 22, stating that after thorough analysis of CCTV footage, drone visuals, and other evidence, it was confirmed that Singaiah was indeed run over by a vehicle in the convoy led by Jagan Mohan Reddy. The elderly victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Initially, police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to causing death by negligence, based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary. However, following a detailed investigation, the case has now been upgraded. Authorities have added Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 49 (abetment) of the BNS.

Apart from Jagan Mohan Reddy, several others in his close circle have also been named as co-accused in the case. These include his driver Ramana Reddy, personal assistant K Nageshwar Reddy, senior party leader YV Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former minister Vidadala Rajini. All have been formally added to the list of accused. Police have stated that the investigation will continue under due legal procedures. As the matter involves a high-profile political figure, the case has gained significant public attention and is being closely monitored at both state and national levels.
