NISAU UK–ICEF partnership aims to ensure ethical recruitment for Indian students

The National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK has entered a strategic partnership with the International Consultants for Education and Fairs, a long-established organisation known for its global expertise in international education services. The collaboration is intended to address growing concerns around transparency, accountability, and ethical standards in the student recruitment process, particularly for Indian students who form one of the world’s largest cohorts of outbound learners. With more than a million Indians pursuing education overseas every year, many rely heavily on private agents for guidance, making clear and reliable information an essential part of their decision-making journey.

According to NISAU UK, the alliance aims to strengthen responsible recruitment practices from the very first counselling session until the student graduates. Both organisations say that as immigration policies, admissions frameworks, and destination-country rules change frequently, students require stable, trustworthy support that puts their interests first. ICEF Chief Executive Markus Badde stated that international students deserve clarity, transparency, and dependable support, noting that the partnership brings together ICEF’s extensive global networks with NISAU’s strong track record in student advocacy.

The partnership outlines a shared agenda that includes promoting ethical recruitment between India and the United Kingdom, establishing quality standards to guide both students and universities, and producing joint research that can contribute to more informed policymaking. Representatives from both sides believe that these efforts can help reduce the influence of unethical or unqualified agents, who often operate without adequate oversight and may mislead students facing high-stakes decisions about their future.

NISAU UK Founder and Chair Sanam Arora said the collaboration reinforces the importance of trustworthy counselling, especially as students navigate shifting rules across major study destinations. She emphasised that the agreement places students at the centre of the recruitment system and reflects both organisations’ commitment to preventing misinformation and exploitation. Arora added that ICEF’s quality-driven framework aligns closely with NISAU’s mission to safeguard student welfare throughout the application and study process.

The partnership also builds on NISAU UK’s earlier initiatives to highlight best practices among education agents. Earlier this year, the organisation introduced what it described as the world’s first student-centric “Agent of the Year” award. This recognition aims to celebrate agencies that prioritise transparency, ethical behaviour, and genuine student support. The award will be presented at NISAU UK’s India-UK Achievers Honours in February 2026 in London, where titles for “Outstanding Agent of the Year” and “Highly Commended Agent” will be announced.

According to Arora, the award is intended to empower both students and universities by giving them a meaningful role in identifying dependable agencies that uphold ethical standards. The 2026 event is expected to bring together prominent voices from education, policy, diplomacy, and industry across the India–UK corridor. Through these combined efforts, NISAU UK and ICEF hope to contribute to a more transparent and accountable recruitment landscape that better serves Indian students seeking opportunities abroad.
