Bart experienced significant service disruptions on Monday morning after a power issue halted regular operations across several major lines, affecting thousands of commuters throughout the Bay Area. According to early information from the transit agency, a major delay was reported on the San Francisco line in all directions as crews responded to a power problem detected between the Powell Street and Embarcadero stations. The issue restricted train movement in one of the system’s busiest corridors and immediately triggered widespread delays.

The power failure had a direct impact on service flowing through the Transbay Tube, resulting in only limited operations on the Yellow Line. As a consequence, passengers who rely on this primary transbay route encountered long waits, reduced train frequency, and crowding on platforms during the peak morning commute. The agency confirmed that both the Red and Green lines were fully out of service, leaving riders searching for alternative travel options or navigating complex transfer patterns to reach their destinations. Limited Blue Line service continued to operate only between the Dublin/Pleasanton and West Oakland stations, offering partial relief for some East Bay travelers.

In an effort to ease confusion and maintain some level of mobility across the system, Bart issued temporary travel guidance for riders on the affected routes. Passengers typically boarding the Red Line from Richmond were advised to instead take an Orange Line train and transfer at MacArthur Station to access Yellow Line trains bound for San Francisco International Airport. Green Line riders were directed to use the same Orange Line connection and transfer at Bayfair to reach Daly City–bound service.

Despite these temporary solutions, many commuters experienced extended travel times, and the lack of Red and Green line service created bottlenecks on remaining lines that were still in operation. The agency did not immediately provide an estimated timeline for restoring normal service, noting that crews were still evaluating the extent of the power issue and working to resolve it as quickly as possible. The cause of the power failure had not yet been determined, and further updates were expected later in the day as more information became available.

The disruptions come at a time when consistent and reliable transit service remains critical for the region’s workforce, particularly during peak morning hours. The delays also underscored the vulnerability of key segments of the rail system, such as the area between Powell Street and Embarcadero, where even a single technical problem can significantly affect multiple lines and impact cross-bay travel. As the morning commute continued, riders were encouraged to check real-time updates and plan for additional travel time until full service is restored.
