A tragic incident during the Eid al-Adha holiday has left an Indian family in Dubai devastated. Issac Paul Olakkengil, a 29-year-old engineer from Kerala, lost his life while scuba diving at Jumeirah Beach on Friday, June 6. The young professional, who had been working in the UAE, suffered a cardiac arrest during a training session in the water.
As reported by Khaleej Times, Issac was part of a supervised diving session when he suddenly began gasping for air underwater. Despite prompt efforts from nearby swimming experts who pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby healthcare facility, he could not be revived. His sudden passing has shocked the Indian expat community in the UAE.
Issac's uncle, David Pyarilos, who is currently helping the family manage legal formalities, confirmed that the incident happened while Issac was celebrating Eid al-Adha with loved ones. He is now working with Dubai authorities to complete the repatriation procedures and return the body to Kerala.
The incident has cast a dark cloud over what should have been a joyful time for the family. Tributes have begun pouring in for the young engineer, who was described by acquaintances as kind-hearted, ambitious, and well-loved in his professional and personal circles.
The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the hidden risks associated with adventure sports like scuba diving, even under supervised training. Authorities have yet to confirm whether Issac had any pre-existing medical conditions that may have contributed to the cardiac arrest. The Indian consulate in Dubai is also expected to extend support to the grieving family, while the Kerala community mourns the loss of another young life abroad.
