Senator Meg Loughran Cappel, representing Illinois’ 49th district, confirmed that her home was struck by gunfire, though thankfully, neither she nor her family sustained any injuries. The senator described the experience as deeply troubling, emphasizing her gratitude toward law enforcement officers and investigators for their swift action in detaining a suspect and pursuing a thorough investigation.
Shorewood police first responded to a report of a gunshot around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Ca-Crest Drive and Highland Drive. Initially, no damage was reported at that location. Two hours later, authorities responded to a residence on the 500 block of Bethany Drive where a home was struck at least three times by what was identified as a small-caliber weapon. No arrests were immediately made in connection to the second shooting, and the investigation continued.
Further inspections uncovered that a home on the 500 block of Northgate Lane had also been struck by a single bullet. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured in either home during these shootings. Later in the day, police were able to identify a vehicle linked to the shootings. A suspect was subsequently apprehended. Officials indicated that the same weapon was likely used in both incidents. At this time, there is no known connection between the residents of the two affected homes, and police have not disclosed any potential motive behind the attacks. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities closely examining all possible leads.
Local law enforcement emphasized that there is no indication the shootings were politically motivated. The community is being urged to remain vigilant as the investigation proceeds, while officials continue working to bring full clarity and justice to the case.
