Washington, DC, Friday, June 5, 2026 — Rep. Ro Khanna has backed H.Res.69, a Hindu American resolution in the U.S. House that recognizes the contributions of Hindu Americans and condemns Hinduphobia, anti-Hindu bigotry and attacks on Hindu places of worship.
Khanna said in a post on X on Monday, June 1, 2026, that he was proud to cosponsor the measure introduced by Rep. Shri Thanedar. He said the resolution celebrates the contributions and diversity of the Hindu American community while supporting the country’s multiracial democracy.
What H.Res.69 Hindu American Resolution Says
H.Res.69 recognizes Hindu Americans for their cultural, civic and economic contributions to the United States. The measure also condemns anti-Hindu discrimination, hate, intolerance and attacks on Hindu places of worship.
The resolution was introduced in January 2025 and referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. As a simple House resolution, it is nonbinding and does not create new law. Instead, it expresses the sense of the House on a specific issue.
Why Ro Khanna’s Support Matters
Khanna’s support gives the measure added visibility because he is one of the most prominent Indian American members of Congress. His endorsement also comes more than a year after the resolution was introduced, as Hindu American advocacy groups continue urging lawmakers to support it.
The Hindu American Foundation said after Khanna’s announcement that more than 3,000 letters had been sent to Congress in support of H.Res.69.
Supporters say the resolution is an important recognition of Hindu Americans and a response to anti-Hindu bias, temple vandalism and discrimination. Critics of similar measures have argued that the term Hinduphobia can be applied too broadly, raising concerns about free speech and criticism of political ideologies.
For Hindu American organizations, Khanna’s backing marks a new point of momentum for a resolution that remains symbolic but politically visible in Congress.
