Ohio crash on Interstate 480
Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, a 26-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, died in a serious road accident in Macedonia, Ohio, on August 7, 2026. Preliminary information cited by the North America Telugu Society states that Bungatavula was driving eastbound on Interstate 480 when a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center median and collided with his vehicle.
Emergency crews responded to the crash, but Bungatavula was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released a final account of what caused the collision, and the investigation remains underway.
Kent State graduate from Andhra Pradesh
Bungatavula was originally from Jettivaripalli in Andhra Pradesh. He moved to the United States for higher education and studied at Kent State University. The university’s Spring 2025 commencement records list Dileep Kumar Bungatavula among its graduates.
After completing his studies, he had recently begun building his professional career in the United States, according to information shared by his family and community representatives. His death has caused deep grief among relatives and members of the Telugu community in North America.
Indian Consulate assists family
The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed Bungatavula’s death in an official statement and said the accident occurred in Ohio on August 7. The mission expressed condolences to his family and said it remained in contact with them while extending all possible assistance.
The New York consulate’s official jurisdiction includes Ohio, making it the relevant Indian diplomatic mission handling assistance in the case. The family is also making arrangements connected with bringing Bungatavula’s remains back to India for final rites.
NATS fundraiser supports family
The North America Telugu Society has opened a fundraiser to support Bungatavula’s family. NATS said his father, Sreehari Bungatavula, is a farmer and that the family made significant financial sacrifices to support Dileep’s education and future in the United States.
According to the organization, the campaign is intended to help cover outstanding educational and personal loan obligations, immediate financial needs and other family expenses following his death. NATS has set a fundraising goal of $100,000.
The case has drawn concern within the Telugu community in North America as the family deals with the sudden loss and practical arrangements following his death. Police have not announced a final determination on the cause of the crash, and further details are expected only after the investigation is completed.
