Ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, unveiled its manifesto outlining a series of key promises focused on women’s empowerment and social reforms. The party pledged to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, with exemptions for areas under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and tribal communities. It also announced an increase in financial assistance under the Orunodoi scheme, raising the monthly direct benefit transfer to ₹3,000 for eligible women.
Among other major commitments, the BJP promised to generate 2 lakh jobs over the next five years and launch an initiative to support 40 lakh women under the “Lakhpati Didi” scheme, which includes a direct transfer of ₹25,000 to beneficiaries. The party also emphasized infrastructure development, proposing the establishment of a medical college, a university, and an engineering college in every district of Assam.
Highlighting the vision behind the manifesto, Chief Minister Sarma reiterated the goal of transforming Assam into the “brightest state” in the country, with a focus on growth, security, and self-reliance. The BJP is aiming for a third consecutive term in power, with the Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026.
