Union Cabinet Approves ₹2,534 Crore Amaravati Development Projects

The Union Cabinet has approved two major projects for the development of Amaravati, with a total investment of ₹2,534 crore. These initiatives aim to modernize the city and provide world-class infrastructure for central government operations and employees.

CGO Complex to House All Central Government Offices

A Central Government Offices (CGO) complex is set to be built at an estimated cost of ₹1,299 crore. Spread across 17 acres, the complex will feature 11 towers comprising 1,504 modern flats and underground parking for 1,972 vehicles. The project is designed to bring all Union Government services under one roof, offering convenience unmatched in any other state.

The square-shaped complex will consist of two main blocks spanning 5.53 acres, with buildings of 10 and 13 floors and a total built-up area of 23.25 lakh square feet. The facility will accommodate approximately 8,000 employees and include essential amenities such as a bank, ATM, and post office. Adhering to green building standards, the CGO Complex will provide barrier-free access for differently-abled individuals and is expected to achieve a GRIHA 4-star rating.

Residences for Government Employees

In addition to the CGO complex, ₹1,235 crore has been sanctioned for constructing residential facilities for Union Government employees. This initiative ensures a holistic development approach, integrating both office and living spaces to enhance efficiency and convenience.

Strategic Significance

The development aligns with strong coordination between the NDA government and the Telugu Desam Party, led by Chandrababu Naidu. With upcoming political challenges, including potential changes in the capital proposed by Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2029, the next three years are critical for Amaravati’s infrastructure and future planning. Timely completion of these projects is expected to cement Amaravati as a modern and functional administrative capital.
