Tata Sierra Launch Timeline Confirmed for 2025

Tata Motors has officially confirmed that the iconic Tata Sierra SUV will be relaunched in India within the 2025 calendar year, marking a major comeback for one of the brand’s most loved models from the 1990s. Revealed during the launch event of the Harrier.ev, Tata’s flagship electric SUV, the Sierra will arrive in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions. This announcement ends months of speculation and teases a modern interpretation of the classic three-door SUV, now redesigned with a practical five-door layout to appeal to today’s consumers.

The Sierra’s design will blend retro cues with futuristic styling. Spotted test mules hint at a bold exterior with a tall bonnet, connected LED DRLs, a black grille, split headlamps, and a muscular stance complemented by flush door handles and squared wheel arches. Inside, it’s expected to feature customizable interior color themes, a four-spoke steering wheel with Tata’s illuminated logo, and premium trims depending on the variant.

Powertrain options for the ICE variant will likely include a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 168bhp and 280Nm torque, as well as a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel producing 168bhp and 350Nm. Both engines may be paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Meanwhile, the Sierra EV is expected to deliver over 500km range on a single charge and share components with the recently unveiled Harrier EV, including advanced electric architecture and possibly dual motor AWD.

Future of AWD in Tata’s lineup

Tata also confirmed that all-wheel drive (AWD) will return, starting with their EV models. While AWD currently features in the Harrier EV, Tata may offer it in future ICE variants, depending on market demand. This move could bring AWD back to models like the Tata Safari and the upcoming Sierra. As Tata adapts to shifting consumer expectations and evolving EV demand, the company is focusing on not just pricing but also performance and technology. The Sierra’s launch is highly anticipated and could reshape the premium SUV segment in India, combining nostalgia with innovation.
