Dangeti Jahnavi, a young woman from Palakollu in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian to complete NASA’s prestigious International Air and Space Program. Her groundbreaking achievement has opened the doors to a historic space mission she is set to travel to space in 2029. The mission is expected to take her to the Titan’s Orbital Port Space Station, a major U.S.-based space infrastructure project scheduled to become operational within the next four years.
A graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Lovely Professional University, Jahnavi’s journey into space exploration began after her Intermediate education in her hometown. Her dedication to space science and education has made her an influential voice in STEM outreach, frequently delivering lectures at institutions like the National Institutes of Technology and participating in ISRO educational initiatives.
Jahnavi has built a diverse and impressive profile in the space science community. She played a critical role in the International Astronomical Search Collaboration where she contributed to the provisional discovery of an asteroid using data from the Pan-STARRS observatory. She also holds the distinction of being the youngest foreign analog astronaut and the first Indian to be selected for Space Iceland’s geology training program. Her experiences include analog missions, deep-sea diving, and participation in global conferences on space sustainability and planetary science.
Her efforts have been recognized with numerous prestigious accolades such as the People’s Choice Award at the NASA Space Apps Challenge and the ISRO World Space Week Young Achiever Award. With both parents currently working in Kuwait, Jahnavi’s story is a testament to resilience, talent, and an unyielding drive to break barriers. Her upcoming space mission not only marks a personal milestone but also serves as a powerful inspiration for young Indians, particularly women, looking to enter the space and STEM fields.
