Sourav Ganguly Files Police Complaint Over Fake Social Media Posts

Former India cricket captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Monday, June 15, 2026, filed a police complaint in Kolkata, alleging that a Facebook page with millions of followers had been circulating defamatory and misleading content aimed at damaging his reputation.

The complaint was lodged at Thakurpukur Police Station. Ganguly reportedly said that the online posts were false, misleading and harmful to his public image.

Fake Social Media Posts Spark Complaint

According to reports, the complaint named an unofficial Facebook page called “Sourav Ganguly Fans”. It also mentioned the media platform Sportzwiki in connection with the circulation of the alleged content.

One of the posts reportedly claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had conducted a raid at Ganguly’s residence. Ganguly denied the claim and said the information was completely untrue.

Police Begin Looking Into The Matter

Police are now examining the complaint and the online content linked to the allegation. The matter is being treated as a case involving allegedly defamatory posts and the spread of misleading information on social media.

An immediate response from the social media page or the platform mentioned in the complaint was not available.

The case has once again raised concern over unverified posts targeting public figures. Sports personalities, film celebrities and political leaders have increasingly faced fake claims and misleading social media content in recent years.

In Ganguly’s case, the complaint focuses on the alleged damage caused to his reputation through a fabricated claim. Further action will depend on the police examination of the posts and the people or platforms linked to their circulation.
