Coco Gauff to Face Sabalenka in French Open 2025 Final

World No. 2 Coco Gauff has powered her way into the 2025 French Open final, setting up a high-voltage clash with top seed Aryna Sabalenka. In a dominant semifinal performance on Thursday, the 20-year-old American dismantled French wildcard Lois Boisson 6-1, 6-2 to book her place in the Roland Garros title match.

This marks the first French Open final between the top two women’s players in the world in over a decade. Gauff, playing with maturity beyond her years, was clinical against Boisson, whose unexpected run to the semifinals had become one of the feel-good stories of the tournament. But the American’s precision and power proved too much for the local favorite.

Sabalenka had earlier pulled off a massive upset, ending Iga Swiatek’s reign in Paris in a gripping three-set semifinal. By defeating the three-time defending champion, Sabalenka secured her first-ever French Open final appearance and a chance to claim her third career Grand Slam title.

This final will be Gauff's second at Roland Garros, following her 2022 run where she lost to Swiatek. However, the stakes are different this time. Gauff now arrives as a Grand Slam champion after her thrilling 2023 US Open triumph where she notably defeated Sabalenka in the final.

With the head-to-head record between the two standing at 5-5, and each player winning two of their last four encounters, the 2025 French Open women’s final promises to be one of the most competitive and anticipated matches of the season. It will also be the first time since the 2013 Roland Garros final when Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova that the top two WTA players face off in the clay-court championship match. All eyes now turn to Court Philippe-Chatrier, where two of the sport’s brightest stars will battle for the crown and, perhaps, a shift in the balance of power in women’s tennis.
