Ayush Shetty Wins Maiden BWF World Tour Title at US Open

Ayush Shetty, the promising young Indian shuttler, secured his first-ever BWF World Tour title with a commanding victory in the men’s singles final of the US Open Super 300. Shetty, 20, triumphed over Canada’s Brian Yang in straight games, 21-18, 21-13, in 47 minutes. The win ended India’s title drought for the season and capped off an impressive week, including a remarkable comeback victory over top seed Chou Tien Chen in the semifinals. This victory also marked Shetty's third win over Yang, having previously defeated him in the Malaysia and Taipei Open earlier this year.

Shetty, who won a bronze at the 2023 junior world championships, shared his excitement post-victory, saying, "It means a lot, it's my first title in the senior circuit. So I'm really happy." Reflecting on his performance, he added, "I played some excellent badminton here, and I'm looking forward to the Canada Open next week."

In the women’s singles final, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma made her first appearance in a World Tour final but was defeated by top seed Beiwen Zhang of the United States. After winning the second game in a strong comeback, Sharma could not maintain the momentum, and Zhang claimed the title 11-21, 21-16, 10-21 in 46 minutes. Despite the loss, Sharma expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting, "I was a bit nervous before entering the court, and I made many mistakes. But I’m happy to reach my first Super 300 final." The contrasting outcomes of Shetty and Sharma’s performances at the US Open highlight the bright future of Indian badminton, with Shetty's victory marking a significant milestone in his career and Sharma's runner-up finish offering promise for her future in the sport.
