RCB Roar in IPL 2026 Opener: Kohli and Padikkal Lead Dominant Win Over SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) began their IPL 2026 title defense in style, with a ruthless six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening match of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28. Chasing a challenging target of 202, RCB completed the task in just 15.4 overs, with 26 balls to spare, sending an early warning to the rest of the league.

RCB's Clinical Performance with the Bat

Devdutt Padikkal, in his first match of the season, was the standout performer for RCB. Coming in as an Impact Player, Padikkal smashed 61 off just 26 balls, including 4 sixes and 6 fours, as he showcased his brilliance with both timing and power. His performance was a testament to the form he displayed during the domestic Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him an early contender for the Orange Cap.

Virat Kohli, anchoring the innings, played a key role in ensuring RCB’s dominant chase. Kohli’s fluency with the bat was evident as he scored 69 not out from 38 balls, finishing off the match with a flurry of boundaries. Despite losing Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma in quick succession during the middle overs, Kohli held his composure, leading RCB to a comfortable victory.

Earlier in the match, Jacob Duffy was the hero with the ball for RCB, dismantling SRH’s top order. Duffy’s clinical spell saw him remove both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma within the first few overs, ensuring that SRH was never able to get going. While Ishan Kishan played a valiant knock of 80, it wasn’t enough to get SRH to a competitive total. RCB's bowlers, led by Duffy, never allowed SRH to build significant partnerships, and they eventually restricted them to 201/9 in their 20 overs.
