Insurance Cover For Students Across North Kerala
Kannur University has launched an accident insurance scheme to provide financial protection for students enrolled from 2025 onwards. A total of 17,343 students from Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts will be covered under the scheme. The initiative is aimed at strengthening student safety and giving support to families in case of unexpected accidents during the academic period.
Premium, Coverage And Benefits
According to the university’s insurance proposal, the scheme was planned as a Group Personal Accident Policy for regular students, with a proposed annual premium contribution of up to ₹200 per student. The cover is expected to remain valid round the clock, including during academic, sports, extracurricular and personal activities. The policy is meant to provide protection in cases such as accidental death, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability and accident-related medical expenses.
Support During Accident Emergencies
The scheme may also include treatment support for incidents such as snake bite, dog bite, animal attack and other accidental injuries, depending on the final policy terms. This makes the insurance cover useful for students from rural, semi-urban and campus-based backgrounds, where sudden medical expenses can become a major financial burden for families.
Claim Process And Student Welfare
Students and parents should check the final notification from Kannur University and the selected insurance provider for the exact sum insured, claim form, required documents and settlement timeline. The launch of this accident insurance cover is an important student welfare step, as it adds an extra layer of safety for thousands of students across North Kerala while they continue their studies.
