Liu Ce vs Levi Rodrigues Jr: UFC Shanghai Prediction

Chinese knockout specialist Liu Ce makes his UFC debut against Brazilian finisher Levi Rodrigues Jr. in a light-heavyweight main-card bout at UFC Fight Night 286 in Shanghai, with Liu entering as the betting favourite.

Light Heavyweights Meet on Shanghai Main Card

Liu Ce and Levi Rodrigues Jr. will meet at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in China as part of UFC Fight Night 286, headlined by Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong. The preview listed Liu with an unbeaten 3-0 professional MMA record, while Rodrigues enters at 5-1 with one no-contest. Liu will be making his first UFC appearance in front of a home crowd. Rodrigues returns approximately six weeks after suffering a second-round stoppage loss to Felipe Franco in his promotional debut. The matchup offers both fighters an important opportunity: Liu can announce himself on the international stage, while Rodrigues needs a convincing response after a difficult first Octagon appearance.

Liu’s Striking Meets an Uncertain Ground Test

Liu’s strongest advantage appears to be his striking experience. The former K-1 cruiserweight champion has an extensive kickboxing background, dangerous kicks and the ability to finish exchanges with power. At 6-foot-5, he also holds a significant height advantage over the 6-foot Rodrigues. However, Liu remains relatively inexperienced in mixed martial arts, and his defensive grappling has not been tested at the UFC level. If Rodrigues can force clinch exchanges, secure takedowns and keep Liu working from his back, he may expose the newcomer’s biggest unanswered question.

Early Knockout Predicted for UFC Debutant

MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom selected Liu to win by first-round knockout, although he described the prediction as a low-confidence pick. The reasoning is that Rodrigues has not consistently demonstrated the wrestling control needed to neutralize an accomplished kickboxer. If the bout remains standing, Liu’s range, timing and finishing ability could make the difference. Rodrigues still carries genuine knockout power and has won each of his professional victories by stoppage, meaning an uncontrolled exchange could quickly change the contest. The pick favours Liu, but the limited MMA experience on both sides makes the matchup less predictable than the odds suggest.

Betting Odds, Start Time and Streaming Details

FanDuel listed Liu as a -198 favourite, with Rodrigues priced at +166. Contrary to the original wording, those numbers make the Chinese debutant—not Rodrigues—the clear betting favourite. The fighters are expected to make their cage walks at approximately 6:40 a.m. ET, although the timing may change depending on the length of earlier bouts. The fight is scheduled to stream live in the United States on Paramount+. Viewers should confirm the latest event order and local broadcast schedule before the card begins.
