India Eye T20I Series Win As Tilak Varma Calls For Wickets

India vice-captain Tilak Varma has urged the bowling unit to focus on taking wickets rather than simply trying to restrict runs against the West Indies as the hosts prepare for the fourth T20I of the five-match series.

India currently hold a 2-1 advantage and can secure the series with victory in the fourth match. West Indies, meanwhile, will be determined to level the contest and force the series into a deciding fifth T20I.

The visitors have already demonstrated how dangerous their batting line-up can be. In the second T20I, West Indies successfully chased a massive 249-run target, powered by captain Shai Hope's explosive 102 from just 45 deliveries.

Tilak Varma Warns Against West Indies Batting Power

Tilak believes India cannot afford to relax at any stage against a West Indies side packed with powerful hitters throughout its batting order.

Speaking ahead of the fourth T20I, the 23-year-old highlighted the visitors' extensive experience in franchise T20 cricket and their ability to attack regardless of their position in the batting order.

According to Tilak, West Indies' biggest strength is that their power-hitting is not restricted to the top or middle order. Even their lower-order players are capable of clearing the boundary and changing the momentum of a match.

That depth means India must remain aggressive until all 10 wickets have been taken rather than assuming the game is under control after dismissing the leading batters.

India Focus On Taking Wickets After Second T20I Defeat

India's bowling strategy came under scrutiny following the second T20I, when West Indies attacked aggressively in the powerplay and completed a remarkable high-scoring chase.

Tilak acknowledged that India had initially adopted a slightly defensive approach while the opposition was scoring quickly. The team subsequently reviewed its plans, with head coach Gautam Gambhir encouraging the bowlers to attack more aggressively and look for wickets.

India responded strongly in the third T20I in Indore, registering a 14-run victory. West Indies still managed to reach 209 after another late attacking effort, underlining the threat they pose even when chasing a demanding target.

India will now look to carry that wicket-taking mentality into the fourth match while improving the execution of bowling plans during crucial phases.

Tilak Varma Ready To Adapt To India's Batting Needs

India's top-order batters have been in strong form during the series, limiting opportunities for some players in the middle order. Tilak, however, remains prepared to adjust his approach depending on the match situation.

The left-hander has enjoyed considerable success at No. 3 in T20 internationals. He has scored 443 runs from 13 innings in that position, including two centuries, at an average of 55.37 and a strike rate of 169.73.

Tilak prefers batting at No. 3 because the position allows him to respond to different situations. If India lose early wickets, he can spend some time rebuilding the innings and take the game deeper. If the top order bats through the opening 14 or 15 overs, he is prepared to attack immediately and accelerate from his first few deliveries.

That flexibility could become important as India look to close out the series against a West Indies attack that will be under pressure to keep the contest alive.

Hyderabad Pitch Adds Fresh Challenge For Fourth T20I

The fourth T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad could present a different challenge because of the re-laid surface.

Tilak indicated that India would assess the pitch and conditions before determining how aggressively to approach the innings. In T20 cricket, batters have very little time to settle, making early assessment of the surface particularly important.

The fresh-soil wicket could behave differently from the conditions traditionally associated with the Hyderabad venue, meaning both teams may have to adjust their plans quickly after the match begins.

The contest will also carry personal significance for Tilak, who is preparing to play in front of his home crowd while serving as India's vice-captain.

The Hyderabad cricketer described the opportunity as a proud moment. Several players familiar to local cricket followers, including Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy, are also part of India's squad.

With India one victory away from securing the five-match series and West Indies fighting to stay alive, the fourth T20I is set to be a crucial contest. India's ability to take wickets consistently against the visitors' deep and explosive batting line-up could ultimately determine whether the hosts wrap up the series in Hyderabad or head into the final match with everything still to play for.
