Six Flags Great America opens daily with Wrath of Rakshasa coaster debut set for May 31
Six Flags Great America has officially launched daily operations for the summer season in Gurnee, signaling the return of nonstop excitement and anticipation for visitors of all ages. With the park now open seven days a week, guests are preparing for one of the most highly awaited ride debuts in recent memory: the Wrath of Rakshasa roller coaster, which opens to the public on Saturday, May 31.

This major new addition marks the 15th roller coaster at the park and brings with it a unique thrill as the first dive coaster ever installed there. Wrath of Rakshasa introduces a distinctive experience with its seven-across, three-row train configuration. Riders ascend a towering 180-foot lift hill, and at the summit, the train pauses, holding them in a face-down position over the edge, creating intense suspense before releasing into a heart-pounding, 96-degree drop that plunges 171 feet at speeds reaching up to 67 miles per hour.

Engineered by a world-renowned coaster manufacturer responsible for several of the park’s most iconic rides, the coaster promises to be a standout among adrenaline attractions. Its addition to the park continues a tradition of innovation and delivers a high-intensity experience that builds on the legacy of beloved coasters already on site. With its vertical dive, sweeping curves, and powerful launch, Wrath of Rakshasa is expected to quickly become a must-ride favorite.

The new coaster’s debut coincides with a wave of new ride launches across the country, reflecting a competitive and creative era in the amusement industry. While other parks introduce ambitious projects this summer, Wrath of Rakshasa positions Six Flags Great America as a leader in delivering next-generation thrills.

As of this week, the park is open daily and will maintain that schedule through Monday, August 18. After that, it will transition to weekend-only operation through Labor Day weekend, allowing guests ample opportunity to explore all the attractions before the season winds down. This seasonal change is part of the park’s standard operating calendar and aligns with peak attendance periods.

Complementing the main amusement park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Chicago is also gearing up for a summer of splash-filled fun. The water park is scheduled to open its gates for the first time this season on Saturday, May 31. Daily operations at Hurricane Harbor will run from June 14 through August 10, offering a variety of water slides, pools, and family-friendly attractions designed to provide a cool escape from the summer heat.

With both parks in full swing, Six Flags Great America offers something for everyone—whether it’s conquering record-breaking roller coasters or relaxing by the water. The launch of Wrath of Rakshasa adds a signature experience to an already robust lineup of attractions and is expected to draw coaster enthusiasts from across the Midwest and beyond.

This summer, guests can expect long days of excitement, unforgettable moments, and the kind of edge-of-your-seat thrills that have made the park a regional destination for decades. With cutting-edge rides, family attractions, seasonal events, and now the highly anticipated Wrath of Rakshasa, Six Flags Great America is poised to deliver another summer of adventure in Gurnee.
