Vijay Sworn In as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Amid Massive Celebrations in Chennai

officially took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium amid massive celebrations, loud cheers, and enthusiastic support from party workers and fans. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of political leaders, film personalities, alliance partners, and thousands of supporters.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief assumed office after his party emerged as the single-largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections, with alliance backing helping the coalition cross the majority mark. The swearing-in ceremony marked a major political shift in the state, with Vijay becoming Tamil Nadu’s first non-Dravidian Chief Minister in nearly six decades.

Along with Vijay, senior TVK leaders Aadhav Arjuna and N Anand also took oath as ministers in the new Cabinet. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, actor Trisha Krishnan, BJP leaders, alliance representatives, and film celebrities attended the ceremony at the stadium.

Vijay’s parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, were also present during the event as supporters gathered outside the venue, waving party flags and celebrating the historic political moment in Chennai.
