Kamareddy Manjeera Tragedy: Four Children Drown

A tragic drowning incident in Telangana’s Kamareddy district claimed the lives of four children from the same family, while another Manjeera River incident left four more dead.

Four Children Drown In Manjeera River

A deep tragedy struck Budimi village in Banswada mandal of Kamareddy district after four children from the same family drowned in the Manjeera River on Friday 5th June. The children, all aged below 10 years, had reportedly entered the water after having lunch and taking part in the Yellamma Sambaram celebrations earlier in the day. Within minutes, they were caught in the swirling waters and drowned, leaving the village in shock and grief.

Festival Day Turns Tragic

What began as a festive day soon turned into a heartbreaking incident for the family and locals. The children had spent the afternoon participating in the local celebration before moving towards the river. Officials said the strong water movement proved dangerous, and the children could not escape once they were pulled into the current. The incident has also raised concerns about the need for warning boards and local monitoring near river stretches during festivals and public gatherings.

Another Drowning Incident Reported

In a separate incident, four others from Bollakpalli in Pitlam mandal also drowned in the Manjeera River. They were identified as Anita, Pavani, Srivani and Bhanu. According to reports, the victims were swept away by swift currents. A woman who tried to save them suffered serious injuries, while locals later rescued her.

Bodies Recovered, Case Registered

The bodies of the drowned victims were recovered, and police registered a case before beginning an investigation. The back-to-back drowning incidents have raised serious concerns about safety near river stretches, especially during gatherings, festivals and local events.

Safety Concerns Near Water Bodies

The Kamareddy tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly river currents can turn dangerous. Authorities are expected to review safety measures near the Manjeera River, while locals remain shaken by the loss of young lives and the second drowning incident on the same day. Local residents have been advised to remain cautious near the Manjeera River, especially when water flow is strong or children are present near the banks.
