Bhogapuram, August 1, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inspect the passenger terminal at around 11 a.m. before formally inaugurating the greenfield airport at approximately 11:30 a.m. He will also address a public gathering at the venue in Vizianagaram district.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the airport has been developed under the public-private partnership model and is designed to handle six million passengers annually.
PM Modi’s Bhogapuram Airport Inauguration
The new airport has officially been named the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, honouring the freedom fighter associated with the tribal resistance against British rule in the region.
Built at a cost of more than ₹5,640 crore, the airport is expected to strengthen air connectivity across northern Andhra Pradesh, including Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and neighbouring districts.
The government expects the facility to support tourism, trade, investment and employment by improving access to domestic and international destinations. It is also intended to meet the region’s growing passenger and aviation requirements.
The Bhogapuram airport is expected to emerge as an important aviation hub for the northern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and reduce pressure on existing airport infrastructure around Visakhapatnam.
Airport Capacity, Technology and Green Features
The passenger terminal has been designed to provide a modern and efficient travel experience. It includes biometric passenger processing, automated baggage-handling systems, artificial intelligence-based monitoring and an Airport Predictive Operations Centre.
The project also uses Building Information Modelling and Airside 4.0 technologies to improve airport operations, safety, passenger convenience and resource management.
Sustainability features include a 5 MW solar power plant, rainwater-harvesting systems, energy-efficient lighting and ventilation, waste-management facilities and electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.
Smart building-management and environmental-monitoring systems have also been incorporated. The terminal has been developed in accordance with green-building standards and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council.
The airport’s design reflects elements of Andhra Pradesh’s cultural and natural heritage. The roof profile draws inspiration from traditional Chuttilu cottages and the landscapes of the Araku Valley, while the terminal’s flowing exterior is intended to resemble the movement of a flying fish.
Projects Worth More Than ₹17,900 Crore
During the Bhogapuram programme, Modi will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone for several projects valued at more than ₹17,900 crore.
The development package covers semiconductor manufacturing, renewable-energy transmission and national highway infrastructure. The projects are aimed at improving connectivity, attracting investment and expanding employment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh.
A major announcement is the foundation stone for the ASIP Semiconductor Project in Visakhapatnam. The facility is being developed with an investment of more than ₹460 crore by ASIP Technologies in partnership with South Korea-based APACT.
The government has described it as Andhra Pradesh’s first semiconductor manufacturing facility approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. It is expected to manufacture approximately 96 million semiconductor chips annually and create skilled jobs while supporting an associated electronics ecosystem.
Renewable-Energy and Highway Projects
Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the first phase of a transmission system designed to integrate the 4.5 GW Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone with the national electricity grid. The project is being implemented by POWERGRID with an investment of approximately ₹5,550 crore.
Additional transmission projects for wind and solar energy zones in Kurnool and Ananthapuram will also be inaugurated. These systems are intended to carry renewable power generated in Andhra Pradesh to consumers across the country through the national grid.
The government expects the projects to improve access to clean electricity and support India’s transition away from fossil-fuel-based power generation.
National highway projects worth more than ₹1,880 crore are also included in the programme.
These comprise four-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway sections between Recherla and Guruvaygudem and between Guruvaygudem and Devarapalle on NH-365BG. Modi will also dedicate the four-lane Tadipatri bypass on NH-67 and lay the foundation stone for a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on NH-565.
The projects are expected to ease congestion, improve road safety and reduce travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.
