Bridgeport Correctional Center Carbon Monoxide Detection Prompts Response
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said the Bridgeport Correctional Center was evacuated after carbon monoxide was detected inside the facility. Fire crews responded to the prison as officials worked to assess air quality and protect inmates, staff and emergency personnel.
TDCJ technicians and the facility’s gas provider were also sent to the site to determine the source of the carbon monoxide. Officials were evaluating whether a possible gas leak may have contributed to the incident.
Wise County Officials Ask Public to Avoid Area
Wise County Commissioner Colby Shawn said there was a large first responder presence at the Bridgeport facility after the evacuation began. He said the situation was under control and noted that a possible gas leak may have been a factor.
Wise County Emergency Services asked residents and drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews remained at the prison. The advisory was intended to keep nearby roads clear for fire crews, technicians and other public safety personnel.
