Asia Cup 2025 in Doubt as India Boycotts ACC Meet in Dhaka

The fate of the Asia Cup 2025 hangs in uncertainty as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with several other member boards, has decided to boycott the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This development stems from ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh, which have now spilled over into the cricketing sphere.

According to high-level sources, the BCCI has formally informed ACC officials and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson Mohsin Naqvi of its decision not to participate in the meeting if held in Dhaka. The Indian cricket board also requested a venue change, but no official response has been received as of now. Other boards including Sri Lanka, Oman, and Afghanistan have echoed India’s sentiments, citing similar concerns regarding the meeting’s location.

Despite mounting pressure, ACC chairperson Mohsin Naqvi has remained firm in his decision to conduct the meeting in Dhaka. Sources suggest this stance is being perceived as a strategic move to influence Asia Cup decisions and corner India into compliance. However, under ACC’s constitution, any decisions made in the absence of key member nations including India may be rendered invalid. This could cause a deadlock over critical issues like the tournament's hosting rights and schedule.

The Asia Cup 2025 is tentatively slated for September, but the current impasse has cast serious doubt over its execution. With just days left for the scheduled meeting and no communication on an alternative venue, cricket fans and stakeholders are left in suspense. The situation also raises concerns about broader implications for Asian cricket cooperation amid rising political complexities. Unless a resolution is reached swiftly, the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup could face significant delays or reorganization, with possible ripple effects on participating nations’ preparations and bilateral relations.
