A tragic helicopter crash near Gaurikund on the morning of June 15, 2025, has prompted urgent action from Indian aviation authorities and the Uttarakhand state government. The 407 helicopter, operated by Aryan Aviation, had just completed a round trip from Guptkashi to Kedarnath, carrying five adult passengers, one infant, and a pilot—all of whom were killed. Preliminary findings suggest a Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT), as the aircraft was reportedly flying in poor visibility and heavy cloud cover. The final cause will be determined by an investigation from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
In response, all Aryan Aviation operations related to the Char Dham Yatra have been suspended, along with helicopter services in the region for June 15–16. Additionally, the licenses of two pilots operating in unsafe weather conditions were suspended for six months. The DGCA and UCADA have been directed to conduct a full safety review and establish a real-time monitoring Command-and-Control Room. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on safety violations, emphasizing that no helicopter flights should operate in breach of weather or safety protocols, especially in high-risk zones like Kedarnath.
