Varsha Bollamma Talks About Thammudu: Action, Martial Arts, and More An Exclusive Interview

Varsha, tell us about your character in Thammudu.

Varsha Bollamma: "I play Chitra, a character who plays a pivotal role in the hero Nithiin’s journey. She’s a strong, supportive character who unconditionally helps him, and their bond is central to the story. Chitra is a driving force in the film, and I absolutely enjoyed portraying her."

What was the most challenging part of your role in Thammudu?

Varsha Bollamma: "The physicality of the role was challenging. I had to train in martial arts, something I’ve always wanted to do. It was tough, but it was a great experience. Additionally, shooting in the dense forests of Maredumilli during the monsoon made it even more demanding. We had to deal with natural elements like snakes and scorpions, but it added to the authenticity of the film."

Thammudu seems to have a lot of intense action sequences. How did you prepare for them?

Varsha Bollamma: "I trained in martial arts for my role and had to learn various techniques. This was the most physically demanding film I’ve done, and the action scenes are designed to be mind-blowing. We also shot some scenes holding torches at night, which added a sense of thrill and adventure."

You mentioned that your character, Chitra, is different from you. Can you elaborate on that?

Varsha Bollamma: "Yes, Chitra is the type of person who steps forward without hesitation and takes action. In contrast, I’m not typically someone who takes immediate action without thinking it through. Playing such a strong-willed character was a challenge, but also an exciting opportunity."

Can you tell us about the filming process and the challenges you faced?

Varsha Bollamma: "Filming in Maredumilli's dense forest was one of the biggest challenges. We had no phone signals, and shooting conditions were tough. There were snakes and scorpions around, and the weather was unpredictable. Despite these challenges, everyone remained enthusiastic, and we all worked hard to make the film look real and raw."

What’s the significance of the title Thammudu for you?

Varsha Bollamma: "The title holds a lot of weight for me. It shares its name with the iconic film starring Pawan Kalyan, and I think it fits perfectly with our movie’s story. It reflects a sense of brother-sister sentiment, but also dives into many emotional layers."

How was it working with Nithiin and the rest of the cast?

Varsha Bollamma: "Nithiin is a lot of fun, contrary to his calm persona. We shot in the forest, so we had a lot of time to talk and joke around. He respects everyone on set, and we all had great chemistry. Laya, too, was incredibly inspiring. She shared her journey with us, and I admire her for making a successful comeback."

What are your future projects, and what role would you like to take up next?

Varsha Bollamma: "I’m working on a web series called Constable Kanakam, and I have a few more projects lined up. One of my biggest dreams is to play a psycho killer in a crime thriller. I’ve always been fascinated by unpredictable characters, and if I ever get the chance, I’d love to explore that role."

What is your take on the impact of Thammudu on the audience?

Varsha Bollamma: "I believe Thammudu will be a visual treat for audiences. The action sequences are absolutely stunning, and the film’s sound design adds to the experience. It's a movie best watched in theatres, and I’m excited for the audience to enjoy it on the big screen."
