Exclusive Interview: Deepshikha Chandran Calls Strong Roles Her Biggest Win After Mark

You are receiving a great response for your performance in Mark. How does it feel to be recognized as a mass heroine early in your career?
I honestly feel very grateful. The response I received from Mark has been extremely encouraging. Being tagged as a mass heroine doesn’t feel like pressure—it feels like a blessing. Audiences accepting me in strong characters is a big success for me. I want to move forward by choosing roles that challenge me as an actor.

Acting opposite Kiccha Sudeep is considered a big opportunity. How was the experience working with him?
It truly felt like an honor. Working with Kiccha Sudeep sir was like attending a learning school. His discipline, focus, and the respect he shows toward co-artists are inspiring. Despite being such a big star, he is very grounded and motivating on set. He always encourages actors to perform better.

You come from a Chennai background but are working across Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu industries. Was language a challenge?
Initially, it was a bit challenging. But language is just a medium emotion is universal. I focused on listening, learning, and practicing. Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada industries welcomed me very warmly, and that support made my journey much more beautiful.

You worked with Vijay Antony in Mazhavil (Morgan). What is the best advice he gave you?
The best advice Vijay Antony sir gave me was, “Accept things as they are.” He is a very calm and composed person, and I learned that quality from him.

You shared screen space with senior Tamil actors in the GRC Jewellers commercial. Did that bring more opportunities?
Yes, it did. I started receiving calls after those commercials. Advertisements give good visibility, and that definitely helps in building a career.

Your film Ramani Kalyanam with Surya Vashisht is ready. How unique is your role in it?
My character in Ramani Kalyanam is very layered and emotionally strong. The chemistry with Surya Vashisht feels very natural and realistic.

You are trying to speak Telugu during promotions. Do you plan to do self-dubbing in the future?
Definitely. I am actively working on my Telugu diction. Self-dubbing adds more honesty to a character. I am practicing with the goal of dubbing for my future Telugu projects.

Was entering films a childhood dream or something that happened by chance?
Acting has always interested me since childhood. Modeling was just a stepping stone, but cinema was always the final goal. Passion and hard work are essential to survive in this industry.

What inspires you to choose action-heavy or strong roles over glamorous ones?
Strong women, both on-screen and off-screen, inspire me. Strong doesn’t always mean rough—it can also be powerful and graceful. Such roles excite me as an actor.

After entering Tollywood, who would you like to work with next?
There are many talented actors in Tollywood. My priority is always strong, performance-oriented scripts. If given a chance, I would love to work with Allu Arjun sir. For now, I am waiting for the right stories.
