Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer is the latest big ticket release to lock the release date. The makers are yet to drop an official update in this regard but it is all but confirmed that the film will be released in theaters worldwide on the 14th of April 2023. 

Jailer is now one of the first Tamil films to lock the Summer 2023 release slot and there’s a lot at stake with the action comedy as it has been quite a while since Rajini last delivered a consolidated box office hit. The film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar who delivered a blockbuster hit with his first film, Doctor. 

Then comes Dhanush’s bilingual film, Sir which is simultaneously shot and released in Tamil as Vaathi. The film has locked 17th February as the release date and the official communication to this effect was made a short while ago. 

Sir is a social drama based on education mafia and it is directed by Venky Atluri who made a striking debut with Varun Tej’s Tholiprema. This film has Samyuktha Menon in the leading lady role. 

Incidentally, as things stand, Rajini’s Jailer is clashing with Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar which is also announced for release on the 14th of April, 2023. It remains to be seen if this head on box office clash will be averted.
