The actor, who has long been known by the title Ulaganayagan (Universal Hero), revealed that he is stepping away from such honors and will no longer be referred to by any prefixes. In an official press release, Kamal stated that he believes "the artist must not be elevated above the art," signaling his desire to remain humble and focused on his craft.

"I prefer to remain grounded, constantly aware of my imperfections and my duty to improve," Kamal Haasan explained, adding that after much reflection, he felt it was the right time to respectfully decline the use of such titles or prefixes. He expressed a deep respect for his fans, the media, and the film industry but emphasized that his identity should not be defined by grandiose labels.

As part of this decision, Kamal Haasan has requested that from now on, he be referred to simply as Kamal Haasan, Kamal, or KH. His request is clear: "I humbly request that all my fans, the media, members of the film fraternity, party cadre, and fellow Indians, to here on after, refer to me simply as Kamal Haasan or Kamal or KH."

This move mirrors a similar one made by actor Ajith Kumar, who also opted to drop his title Thala and asked his followers and the media to refer to him by his real name, Ajith Kumar. Both Kamal Haasan and Ajith’s decisions reflect a trend among certain South Indian stars to step away from the larger-than-life personas often cultivated in the film industry, in favor of a more grounded and humble approach.

Kamal Haasan’s fans, who have long embraced the title Ulaganayagan, will now have to adjust to this new, simpler identity for their hero. However, this shift underscores Kamal's commitment to his craft and his desire to be seen first and foremost as an artist, rather than as a larger-than-life figure.
