Rajkummar Rao has officially confirmed that he will portray former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic. The much-anticipated project, which has already generated significant buzz, is expected to begin shooting next year due to the extensive preparation involved in replicating Ganguly’s cricketing style and life. While details about the film’s title and director are still under wraps, the actor shared insights into the intense training regimen he’s undergoing to accurately depict one of India’s most iconic sports figures.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Rajkummar Rao spoke about the challenges and responsibility of portraying Ganguly, known for his bold leadership and remarkable cricketing achievements. Rao mentioned, “Everybody is taking a lot of care in recreating Dada’s life for a theatrical experience. We have pushed the shooting to next year as we needed some time for the prep. It’s a big responsibility to play one of our most iconic heroes in cricket.”

As part of his preparation, Rajkummar is focusing on adapting his batting style to mirror that of Ganguly, who is a left-handed batsman. Rao explained that although he already knows how to play cricket, batting left-handed requires a different approach, as he is naturally right-handed. He added, “The muscle memory is all about being a right-handed batter. So, I need some time to practice. I have deliberately not met Dada yet. I want to meet him when we fully get into prep mode.”

Rajkummar Rao also shared his excitement and nervousness about playing the legendary cricketer in a previous interview with social media, acknowledging the immense responsibility of portraying such a beloved figure. Ganguly, who scored over 18,500 runs and 38 centuries during his international career, has given his approval for the casting and expressed his willingness to offer full support to the actor, saying, “I think the right person is doing it. I’ll help him with everything.”
