The Independence Day weekend brought two major releases to theatres, Coolie and War 2. While both films opened to mixed reviews, their performance at the box office has been drastically different. On the other hand, War 2, despite its star cast and hype, has underperformed with only Rs 260 crore gross globally.

War 2 fared decently in Hindi-speaking markets but crashed badly in Telugu states, making recovery nearly impossible. In contrast, Coolie has been holding stronger since pre-sales and continues to enjoy an edge over War 2. However, the coming week is crucial as both films face the challenge of sustaining momentum without any major releases ahead. Coolie still has to cross its breakeven mark, while War 2 appears unlikely to recover from its poor start. The survival of both films now depends on word of mouth, with Coolie having a better chance to stay strong in theatres.
