Rajinikanth Hints At Kamal Haasan Collaboration In New Film Director Yet To Be Finalised
Superstar Rajinikanth has once again created excitement among fans by hinting at a possible on-screen collaboration with Kamal Haasan, a reunion that Tamil cinema audiences have been waiting for nearly five decades. Speaking to the media at the Chennai airport before heading to Coimbatore for the shoot of Jailer 2, Rajinikanth confirmed that he has signed a film jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Movies.
When asked directly about working with Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth acknowledged the possibility but clarified that the project is still in early stages. “Director hasn’t been decided yet. It’s my wish to act with him. But we need a proper script and character. The plan is there, but we’re yet to finalise the director,” he said. His statement suggests that while the collaboration is real, the team is taking careful steps to ensure the film meets expectations.
Earlier this month, Kamal Haasan himself confirmed the project during an award show in Dubai, calling it a long-awaited reunion after 46 years. He used a witty metaphor to describe their careers, saying that in the past, directors split roles between them like sharing half a biscuit, but now both actors are content to share one again. Their last film together was Alavuddinum Atbhutha Vilakkum, which released in 1979.
Reports initially suggested that Lokesh Kanagaraj would direct the reunion project, a rumor that surfaced as far back as the Covid-19 pandemic. The project was shelved during that time, but Rajinikanth’s latest comments indicate the director is still undecided. With both stars showing interest and producers backing the venture, the film could mark one of the most significant collaborations in Indian cinema.
Fans of Tamil cinema are eagerly awaiting official announcements on the script, director, and title in the coming weeks. A Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan reunion promises not just nostalgia but also the potential for a landmark cinematic experience that bridges generations of movie lovers.
