Both legends are celebrating 50 years in the film industry, marking half a century of influential work across South Indian cinema. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr L. Murugan, during a media briefing in Goa. The government will felicitate Rajinikanth and Balakrishna on this remarkable milestone, marking their exceptional contributions to Indian film culture.

Dr L. Murugan stated that the honor recognizes their iconic performances, widespread popularity, and long-standing impact on Indian storytelling. Rajinikanth began his acting journey in 1975 with Apoorva Raagangal and went on to redefine superstardom with his unique style, massive box-office pull, and charismatic screen presence. Over the last five decades, he has starred in numerous unforgettable films, earning love from fans across the globe. Balakrishna, on the other hand, has completed 50 years with more than 100 films to his credit. Beyond cinema, he is also a well-known political figure, serving as the MLA of Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh. Earlier this year, Balakrishna was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan for his contribution to arts and public service.

The 2025 edition of IFFI will be held from November 20 to November 27 in Goa, with the closing ceremony scheduled at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium. This year, the festival has registered an impressive 7500 delegates. Around 270 films from 84 countries will be showcased, making the event one of the largest cultural gatherings in India. The joint felicitation of Rajinikanth and Balakrishna is expected to be one of the biggest highlights of the ceremony, as fans and industry professionals eagerly await this historic moment celebrating two monumental careers in Indian cinema.
