Don’t Sleep First Look: Shamdat Turns Director With Psychological Thriller

The upcoming Telugu psychological thriller Don’t Sleep marks an important turning point in the career of Shamdat, who transitions from being a highly respected cinematographer to a director with a strong narrative vision. Having contributed to visually rich and commercially successful films like Uppena and Virupaksha, Shamdat brings a deep understanding of visual storytelling into this project. His earlier directorial effort, Street Lights starring Mammootty, showcased his ability to handle suspense-driven narratives, and Don’t Sleep appears to take that expertise further into a more intense psychological space.

The film features Indhra Raam, known for Chaurya Paatham, in a role that seems layered with emotional and psychological complexity. The first-look poster immediately sets the tone, showing the actor with closed eyes and a bandaged forehead, suggesting trauma or a deeper internal conflict. Adding to the intrigue, Ravindra Vijay is seen pursuing him across a snowy backdrop, an unusual setting for a Telugu film, which hints at a stylized and possibly symbolic narrative. The tagline, “The longer you sleep, the closer he gets,” points toward a storyline that may explore fear, subconscious tension, or a dangerous connection between sleep and reality.

What strengthens Don’t Sleep further is its experienced technical team, which raises expectations about the film’s overall quality. The production design is handled by Monika–Ramakrishna, known for their work in Pushpa: The Rise, ensuring a visually immersive environment. Music by Gokul Harshan and editing by award-winning editor Manoj are expected to enhance the film’s tension and pacing, both crucial for a psychological thriller. Backed by V Chudamani under the V Dream Films banner and launched by Vijay Sethupathi, the film has already generated buzz. With its intriguing concept and strong creative backing, Don’t Sleep is positioning itself as a fresh and gripping addition to the Telugu thriller genre, building anticipation ahead of its theatrical release.
