Jason Sanjay has named Yash and Prashanth Neel’s KGF as his favourite commercial film, praising its convincing world-building and mass presentation. Vijay’s son is preparing for his directorial debut with Sigma, an action entertainer starring Sundeep Kishan in the lead role.
Jason Sanjay, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, has revealed that Yash-starrer KGF is his favourite mainstream commercial film. The aspiring filmmaker shared his admiration for the blockbuster franchise while promoting his directorial debut, Sigma.
Jason explained that no other mass entertainer had influenced his understanding of commercial cinema as strongly as KGF. He praised director Prashanth Neel for constructing a fictional story against a historical backdrop while keeping the narrative accessible and entertaining for a wide audience.
Jason said the film’s visual tone, dramatic world and larger-than-life treatment reflected the director’s complete commitment to the genre. According to him, KGF succeeded because it convinced audiences to believe in its fictional universe without compromising the elements expected from a full-scale mass entertainer.
KGF Storytelling Impresses The Young Director
Headlined by Yash as Rocky, KGF: Chapter 1 was released in 2018 and introduced audiences to the dangerous world of the Kolar Gold Fields. Its sequel, KGF: Chapter 2, arrived in 2022 and expanded the story with bigger action sequences, new characters and a wider pan-India appeal.
Directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Hombale Films, the two movies became major commercial successes. The franchise gained recognition for its stylised action, dark colour palette, powerful background score and ambitious world-building.
Jason’s appreciation appears to go beyond the films’ box-office achievements. His comments focused on how Prashanth Neel remained loyal to the mood and storytelling style of the franchise. For the debut director, the filmmaker’s confidence in presenting a fictional story as an intense historical epic is what makes KGF stand apart from other commercial films.
Sigma Marks Jason Sanjay’s Directorial Debut
Jason is now preparing to enter the film industry as a director with Sigma, featuring Sundeep Kishan in the lead role. The project is being backed by Lyca Productions and is expected to present Sundeep in a commercial action-oriented role.
Jason studied filmmaking in the United States before beginning work on his first feature film. During recent promotional interviews, he has spoken about his preference for direction over acting and the filmmakers, composers and commercial movies that have influenced his creative approach.
Sigma was initially scheduled to reach theatres on July 31, 2026. However, reports indicated that the release had been moved to August to avoid a clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. The filmmakers had not announced a confirmed revised release date at the time of reporting.
Vijay’s Son Builds His Own Cinema Journey
Although Jason belongs to one of Tamil cinema’s most prominent film families, he has chosen to begin his career behind the camera. Rather than following Vijay directly into acting, he is attempting to establish his identity as a writer-director.
The attention surrounding Sigma has increased as Jason continues to discuss his cinematic influences. Naming KGF as his favourite commercial film also offers audiences an early indication of the scale, mood and mass-film sensibilities that interest him as a filmmaker.
With Sundeep Kishan leading the cast and a major production company supporting the project, Sigma is expected to be closely watched when its revised theatrical release plans are officially announced.
