Sridevi Shobhan Babu Review: Old wine in older bottle

Sridevi Shobhan Babu Review: Old wine in older bottle
  • 18 Feb 2023 10:18 AM

Sridevi Shobhan Babu, featuring talented young actors Santosh Sobhan and Gouri Kishan in the lead roles released in theaters today. The film is promoted as a youthful love drama. Here’s the review of the film.

Story: Sridevi(Gouri) is an aspiring greenery artist and as a part of her project, she moves to Araku area. She meets Shobhan Babu(Santosh) here and they eventually fall for each other. But there’s a long-standing family feud between them. How will things go from here?

How did the actors perform?

Santosh is alright in the role of a village lad who has a sensible nature. He performs to the best of his capabilities in this unchallenging role.

Gouri Kishan is a very fine performer and she showcases her acting prowess again now with this film. She has a certain degree of ease. The rest of the cast deliver fine performances.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Prashanth Kumar seems to be stuck in the 90s as that’s where the film appears to be set in. The story is as old as time itself and this is a big no-no for the modern day audience mindset.

The background score and the cinematography are of pretty decent quality. The production values are good as well.

Analysis:

Sridevi Shobhan Babu is a below par love drama that has very little freshness to offer to the audience. It doesn’t pack a punch in any aspect.

The film is more or less old wine packed in an even older bottle. It has dreadful set up as the story is extremely old and outdated. We have already seen hundreds of film with a plot where the lead pair is divided by their family feuds.

The actors did deliver fine performances but there is no substantial drama or novelty factor to bring it all together. So the film ends up as a pretty bleak experience.

The making values are of very good quality but the writing needed to be far better but that isn’t the case.

Verdict: Sridevi Shobhan Babu is a poorly presented rural drama that has zero freshness and ends up as a tiring watch for the audience.

Rating: 1.75/5
