Eagle Review: Excessive Action, Redundant Story

Eagle Review: Excessive Action, Redundant Story
  • 10 Feb 2024 09:50 AM

Ravi Teja joined hands with promising young talent Karthik Ghattamaneni for his latest outing, Eagle. The film released in theaters today and here is what we have to say about the same.

Story: Ruthless assassin Sahadev(Ravi Teja) terrorizes a whole region with his enigmatic violent nature, but he is faced with a challenge after an investigative officer and crooked gangs are behind him. In the midst of this, Nalini(Anupama Parameswaran) is on a mission of unveiling his story to the world with a journalistic report, but she too finds herself in trouble as those behind Sahadev target her as well. Can Sahadev and Nalini come out of the mess?

How did the actors perform?

Ravi Teja plays to his strengths in this slick actioner. He is seen in a rustic role in the film. The action part suits him and he is at ease in the Karthik directorial. Kavya Thapar and Anupama Parameswaran play the leading ladies and they deliver what is expected of them. Navdeep is good in his role. The rest of the cast is alright.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Karthik Ghattamaneni picks an action driven film that has a decent premise. But the fault lies with his lackluster screenplay. The entire first half has been used to set the world, which is painfully lengthy.

Music by Davzand is subpar. The songs are a let down and the BGM is just decent. Visuals are slick and they pack the right punch to set the stage for this actioner. Editing in the first half should have been better. Production values are of top quality.

Analysis:

Eagle is the kind of the film that has a good premise but falls flat due to the weak narration. This is particularly the case with the entire first half of the film. Too much time is spent on world building exercise. The proceedings trek along at a painful pace all through the first half.

But the latter half is much better in terms of narration and presentation. There is enough action impetus in the latter half to make for a better viewing. The track where the protagonist takes on the goons and police together in the pre climax has worked very well.

Karthik had a decent thought in mind where a folklore-type hero takes on anyone and everyone with a fearful reputation behind him. But the problem was with presenting the story in an engaging manner which is where he falters. The ineffective approach in opening the narrative is evident in the first 30 minutes where absolutely nothing happens.

At least, Karthik could have worked on better soundtrack with the music director but he fails at this as well. A lot more technical grip and presentations skills are expected from a refined young talent like him.

Verdict: Eagle has excessive action but a redundant story which works against it. The action part is good in its own right but it needed to be backed by a good narrative which is missing in this case.

Rating: 2.5/5
