Gaami Review: Honest and Genuine Attempt

Gaami, featuring young actor Vishwak Sen in the lead role hit the theaters today. The film is billed to be a new-age adventure thriller and here is our review of the Vidyadhar directorial.

Story: Shankar is a wounded an dejected Aghora who is on the search for his natural cure. On the job, he meets two other individuals who are on their way to the Himalayas. As for Shankar, his goal is to secure a natural herb that can cure his condition. How does these three tracks merge?

How did the actors perform?

Vishwak plays an Aghora, a role that not many youngsters readily take up. He puts up a fine performance in the role and first, his attempt must be appreciated. Chandini Chowary and the rest of the cast put on a fine performance as well. The film is backed by good performances from the lead cast.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Vidyadhar picks a peculiar script that hasn't been explored in Telugu cinema. While his attempt is appreciable, he could have been better off with a better storytelling pattern. The cinematography and background score are of elite quality. Making values are very good.

Analysis:

Gaami revolves around a dejected Aghora, a scientist and a traumatized young girl. How does these three independent tracks collide? How does the main man, Shankara, an Aghora secure the natural herbs that he needs to save his life? This is the crux of the film.

Firstly, Gaami is a fresh attempt and it touches cinema making styles that were never explored in Telugu cinema. It is backed by good performances. The opening half works well with the kind of freshness it offers.

But after a point, things turn monotonous with the narrative being single-layered. The serious narrative goes flat after a point. The latter half is loaded with the conflict point regarding the three individuals and this blows off the steam.

The visuals and soundtrack are of top quality. The editing could have been better as the length of the proceedings are too much to make for a satisfactory in the latter half. The climax portion is a bit tiring.

But the most important thing is that the technically engrossing experience and the unique attempt must be appreciated. The shortcomings are overpowered by the exquisite freshness the film offers.

Verdict: Gaami has shortcomings on narration front but it deserves appreciation for being a peculiar attempt. The technical aspects absolutely stand out.
