RAID 2 : Latest Hindi Movie Review

RAID 2 : Latest Hindi Movie Review

Plot:
Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), a sincere Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, attempts his 75th raid, targeting Central Railway Minister Dada Manohar Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh). However, he fails to uncover any unaccounted wealth and is suspended. The story follows how Amay proves the minister guilty of tax evasion and money laundering, uncovering how Dada misused his power, acquired large tracts of land, and funneled black money through a charitable trust.

Overview:
Despite decent expectations due to the success of Raid (2018), Raid 2 largely relies on the same template. While the first half is gripping and well-executed, the second half falters due to predictable twists and a lack of originality. Performances and background score remain the film’s strongest pillars, but the repetitive screenplay limits its potential.

Performances:
  • Ajay Devgn delivers a restrained yet powerful performance as Amay Patnaik, repeating his successful portrayal from the first film.
  • Riteish Deshmukh surprises with a subtle and composed antagonist performance as Dada Manohar Bhai.
  • Amit Sial and Shruti Pandey provide comic relief and impactful scenes.
  • Saurabh Shukla reprises his role with usual flair.
  • Supriya Pathak leaves a mark in her limited screen time.
  • Vaani Kapoor gets an underwhelming role and is the weakest link in the cast.
  • Tamannaah Bhatia and Jacqueline Fernandez appear in brief song sequences.

Technical Aspects:
  • Direction: Raj Kumar Gupta delivers a strong first half but fails to maintain the momentum post-intermission. Over-reliance on formulaic storytelling hinders the impact.
  • Screenplay: Becomes highly predictable in the second half and lacks freshness.
  • Dialogues: Sharp and effective, especially in confrontation scenes.
  • Cinematography: Standard work by Sudhir K. Chaudhary.
  • Editing: Sandeep Francis keeps the first half tight but allows the second half to drag unnecessarily.

Music & Background Score:
  • Songs: Four songs, with the two romantic tracks in the first half acting as speed breakers. None of the songs leave a lasting impression.
  • Background Score: Amit Trivedi’s score is energetic and elevates the drama, especially in tense moments.

Positives:
  1. Engaging First Half
  2. Strong Background Score
  3. Solid Performances by Lead and Supporting Cast
  4. Effective Dialogues
Negatives:
  1. Predictable Second Half
  2. Repetitive Screenplay
  3. Lack of Novelty Compared to Part 1
  4. Three Unnecessary Songs
Analysis:
Raid 2 attempts to recreate the magic of the original but stumbles in the second half due to a derivative screenplay. While the setup, character build-up, and initial confrontations are promising, the latter part lacks imagination. The film misses an opportunity to elevate the real-life income tax raid concept by sticking to safe tropes. The director’s reuse of scenes from other films like Race Gurram further dilutes the authenticity.

Bottomline: Routine Raid

Rating: 2.5/5
