8 Vasantalu : Latest Telugu Movie Review

8 Vasantalu : Latest Telugu Movie Review

Plot:

8 Vasantalu follows Shuddhi Ayodhya (Ananthika Sanilkumar), an independent and confident woman who falls in love with an NRI visiting Ooty. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the relationship ends. She later finds love again with Sanjay, a poet and writer. The film explores whether this second relationship leads to happiness and how Sanjay’s past connects to Shuddhi’s journey.

Overview:

Directed by Phanindra Narsetti, this is his second feature film after Manu (2018). Backed by Mythri Movie Makers, 8 Vasantalu attempts to be a poetic romantic drama but struggles with execution, especially in the second half. It tries to tackle modern relationships and emotional growth but falters due to inconsistent writing and miscasting.

Performances:

  • Ananthika Sanilkumar is impressive as Shuddhi. Her expressive performance and screen presence stand out.

  • Hanu Reddy delivers a charming and natural performance.

  • Ravitheja Duggirala as Sanjay is miscast; his lack of experience is evident and hurts the emotional weight of the second half.

  • Supporting actors, especially the actress playing the mother, failed to make an impact, weakening key scenes.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Narsetti shows ambition but lacks consistency in tone and character development.

  • Cinematography: Vishwanath Reddy’s visuals are a major highlight, especially in Ooty, Kashmir, and Varanasi segments.

  • Production Design: Good in the first half but drops in quality in the second half, resembling TV serial aesthetics.

  • Dialogues: Some are meaningful, but many feel overwrought and preachy.

Music:

  • Hesham Abdul Wahab delivers soulful music and an emotional background score.

  • His compositions elevate several sequences, especially in the Kashmir track.

Editing:

  • Shashank Mali’s editing is average. Pacing suffers in the second half, with scenes dragging and emotional beats losing impact.

Positives:

  1. Strong performances by Ananthika and Hanu Reddy

  2. Beautiful visuals and locations

  3. Soulful music and background score

  4. A few impactful dialogues

Negatives:

  1. Ravitheja Duggirala’s weak performance

  2. Inconsistent second half

  3. Overly preachy and dramatic tone

  4. Drop in production values in the second half

  5. Miscasting in key supporting roles

  6. Excessive use of metaphorical, unrealistic dialogues

Analysis:

8 Vasantalu starts with promise the first half features good chemistry, music, and visuals. But the film loses steam due to weak casting, especially for Sanjay, and inconsistent character development. The transformation of key characters between halves is jarring and undermines the narrative's credibility. Overwritten dialogues make it hard for viewers to emotionally connect.

Despite a few shining moments, 8 Vasantalu ends up feeling more like a poetic experiment than a grounded love story. Phanindra Narsetti will likely need another project to truly prove himself as a feature film director.

Bottomline: Partly Shines, Mostly Misfires

Rating: 2.25/5
